RAMBAN — A court in Ramban has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case registered at Police Station Batote in 2016, officials said on Saturday.
The Fast Track Court, Ramban, convicted Dawood Ahmed in connection with FIR No. 54/2016, registered under Sections 376/109 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), they said.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, directing that the amount, if recovered, be paid to the victim. In default of payment, the convict shall undergo an additional six months of imprisonment, officials said.
The case was investigated by Ramban Police and subsequently pursued before the court by the prosecution, they added. — (KIMS)
