SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K on Monday said it has filed a charge sheet against a former Public Health Engineering (PHE) employee for fraudulently availing migrant relief.
The charge sheet has been produced before the Court of 19-Electricity Magistrate, Jammu, against Mohd Hussain Shah, resident of Syedapura, Shopian, presently residing at Nunar Kawabagh, Ganderbal. The accused was posted in the PHE Department, Ganderbal Division, during the relevant period.
According to the EOW, the accused unlawfully registered himself as a migrant along with his family members and fraudulently obtained migrant relief amounting to Rs 18,30,265, despite being in active government service, rendering him ineligible for the benefit.
The case originated from a written complaint received by the EOW, following which a detailed investigation was conducted. The investigation established that the accused deliberately misrepresented his employment status and suppressed material facts to secure migrant registration and continue availing the relief.
The EOW said the accused’s actions caused wrongful loss to the government exchequer and corresponding wrongful gain to himself.
On the basis of evidence collected during the investigation, offences punishable under Section 420 RPC were established. After completing all statutory and procedural formalities, the charge sheet was filed before the competent court for judicial scrutiny.
The EOW Kashmir reiterated its resolve to act firmly against economic crimes and prevent misuse of government welfare schemes. — (KIMS)
