Crime Branch Kashmir files chargesheet against three accused in fake railway job scam

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir on Friday said it has filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 08/2025 before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Beerwah, Budgam, against three persons in connection with a fake Railway recruitment scam.

The chargesheet has been filed under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Hamid Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sheikh of Chewdara, Beerwah, Budgam; Adil Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah of Sonwar, Srinagar, presently residing at Zewan; and Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, son of Mohammad Ashoor Kumar of Hib-Dangerpora, Sopore, presently residing at Rutsuna, Beerwah, Budgam.

The case originated from a written complaint lodged by Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, alleging that Abdul Hamid Sheikh and Adil Shah had provided him with fake appointment letters purportedly issued by the Railway Recruitment Board, New Delhi. The forged job letters carried fabricated seals and signatures of the DGM, Northern Railway, Paharganj, New Delhi.

Following the complaint, EOW Kashmir initiated an investigation, which prima facie established that the accused had conspired with each other, lured victims on the pretext of providing government jobs, and extracted substantial amounts of money. Verification confirmed that the appointment letters were fake and forged.

During the probe, the complainant Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar was also found to be involved in the offence. Investigation revealed that he had taken money from other victims on the false promise of providing employment and had himself issued fake job orders, establishing his active role in the conspiracy.

Based on the facts, circumstances and evidence collected during the investigation, the final report under Section 173 CrPC has been presented before the court for judicial adjudication.

EOW Kashmir of Crime Branch Kashmir reiterated its commitment to curb economic offences and safeguard innocent citizens from fraudulent job rackets. — (KIMS)
