ANANTNAG, Raouf Dar (KIMS) — The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Anantnag has taken cognizance of a viral video involving a minor that was circulated on various social media platforms during a recent event held by Physics Wallah in Anantnag, terming it a violation of the child’s right to privacy.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the CWC said it had received an application from a minor whose video was circulated through various social media handles during the Physics Wallah event in Anantnag, stating that the clip has been “misinterpreted and misused to create content on social media handles which violates the right of privacy and amounts to act of abuse.”
The committee said, “It has been found that various social media handlers and individual social media accounts circulated the said video which in turn violates the right of privacy of minor and due to this act the minor is in distress and facing immoral and threatening comments.”
The CWC further noted that “the undue circulation of video related to the minor during the event held by Physics Walla at Anantnag shall be considered offence against the child under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) 2015 and Rules 2016 and under other laws for the time being in force. Contravening the provisions of laws shall be punishable with imprisonment.”
“In this context, all social media handlers, individual account holders on social media or any other are strictly informed to delete the said content and restrain to disseminate it further. Any violation in this regard shall be dealt as per the law,” the statement added. — (KIMS)
