SRINAGAR – Deputy Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to impose lockdown in the Valley and don’t wait for Delhi like catastrophe to prevent further spread and deaths due to this deadly Coronavirus.
Concerned over the sudden rise in number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the valley, Deputy Mayor of SMC told News Agency Kashmir Dot Com that looking at the current COVID-19 situation in Jammu and Kashmir lockdown is the only tool to tackle this worrying situation we are facing.
He said “As of April 40, 538 COVID-19 positive cases and 513 deaths were reported from the city Srinagar and the COVID-19 doubling rate in Srinagar currently stands at a very high percentage, adding that the situation in hospitals is witnessing horrific from the last ten days.
This deadly virus has taken an ugly turn and the situation has deteriorated across Jammu and Kashmir, beds are full, oxygen points are occupied and hospitals don’t have space in ICU’s in the capital city as people are being admitted with bilateral pneumonia that requires oxygen, Qadri told.
“If Lt Governor will not impose restrictions now, we will be in a situation like Delhi in coming weeks and it will be very much difficult to control this deadly virus in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Qardi urged the Kashmiri’s to wear face masks, follow the necessary protocols from the health department and administration and avoid visiting mosques.
Meanwhile in view of massive spurt in positive cases in Srinagar, Deputy Commissioner Ajaz Assad has imposed section 144 CrPc in all municipal limits of the district to contain further spread of the virus.
