Dr Rizwan pays tribute to Professor G M Bhat, says its huge loss to society

SRINAGAR – Dr Rizwan Rumi, executive member at South Asian Center for Peace Democracy and Development has paid rich tributes to Professor Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, who lost his life due to Covid-19 virus and said ‘it’s a great loss to our society’.

Professor Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat was Head of Department of Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology at University of Kashmir, Hazratbal Srinagar.

He was instrumental in establishing the National Innovation Foundation’s innovation cell at KU in 2006 and helped create DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, a TePP Outreach-cum-Innovation Center at Kashmir University and Institute of Technology, Zakura Campus & Safapora,

Prof. G M Bhat was awarded two patents for his electro-mechanical Cassette player and novel techniques for plus code modulation in 2003. His famous innovation is MIKSHAFUT-TAREEQ, a path Detection device for people with visual impairments.

His dream was to see local innovations being used and sold in the world’s largest markets.

Dr. Rizwan while paying tributes to Professor G M Bhat said, “He was an honest academician & visionary educational administrator. May Allah give him highest rewards in Jannat ul Firdous. We pay our tributes to departed soul and seek patience for his family especially his wife Professor Tasleema, Head, Department of Education Kashmir University, and his two daughter Usamma & Taqwa.

“His loss is not only a personal loss to me, but Kashmir has also lost a great son, a brilliant human and an amazing innovator. We pledge to continue his mission and make Kashmir proud with local innovations,” he added. – (KIMS)
