Encounter breaks out in Khandipora Awantipora

SRINAGAR — An encounter breaks out between government forces and militants at Khandipora village in Awantipora town of Pulwama district in South Kashmir on Tuesday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Khandipora village in Awantipora town of Pulwama district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

Sources said 2-3 militants are believed to be trapped in the encounter.

It is the 2nd encounter in South Kashmir in last 6 hours as another encounter was underway between government forces and militants at Semthan village of Anantnag district. — (KIMS)
