Encounter breaks out in Kulgam’s Ahwatoo village

SRINAGAR — An encounter breaks out between government forces and militants at Ahwatoo village in Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Tuesday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Ahwatoo village in Kulgam district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

Sources said 1-2 militants are believed to be trapped in the encounter.

The encounter was going-on when reports last came in.

Pertinent to mention that it is the second encounter in the district in last 24 hours. Earlier a JeM militant was killed in the encounter at Batpora village yesterday. — (KIMS)
