SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A former Patwari has been convicted in a corruption case dating back to 2007 and sentenced to one year imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000 by a court in Srinagar, officials said on Sunday.
The judgment was pronounced by the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, Tasleem Arif, in connection with FIR No. 20/2007 registered at Police Station VOK (now Anti Corruption Bureau).
The accused, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, son of Mohammad Ismail Bhat, resident of Narparistan Fateh Kadal, Srinagar, then posted as Patwari Halqa Khushipora Zainkot, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹3,000 for implementing a mutation in favour of the complainant.
According to officials, the case was registered on April 1, 2007, under Section 5(2).. of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006 read with Section 161 RPC.
During the investigation conducted by the ACB, the charges against the accused were proved through oral and documentary evidence, following which a chargesheet was filed before the Anti-Corruption Court in 2008.
The court, after hearing the case, convicted the accused and sentenced him to one year imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.
