SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A former Patwari has been convicted in a corruption case dating back to 2007 and sentenced to one year imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000 by the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar.
The judgment was pronounced by Special Judge Tasleem Arif in connection with FIR No. 20/2007 registered at Police Station VOK (now Anti-Corruption Bureau).
The accused, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, son of Mohammad Ismail Bhat and a resident of Narparistan Fateh Kadal Srinagar, was posted as Patwari Halqa Khushipora Zainkot at the time of the offence.
According to officials, the case was registered on April 1, 2007, under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006 read with Section 161 RPC, following allegations that the accused had demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹3,000 for implementing a mutation in favour of the complainant.
During the investigation conducted by the ACB, the allegations were proved beyond doubt through oral and documentary evidence, and a chargesheet was filed before the Anti-Corruption Court on February 29, 2008.
After hearing the case, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to one year imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.
The case on behalf of ACB Srinagar was argued by Senior Prosecuting Officer Wajahat Jameel.
