Five more arrested in Sopore over disruption of student protest, 13 Identified: Police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Police on Wednesday said they have arrested five more persons in Sopore town of Baramulla district in connection with the disruption of a recent student protest at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Monday.

According to police, the arrests were made during night-long raids as part of an ongoing crackdown against individuals allegedly involved in creating law and order disturbances.

Police said the accused had infiltrated a peaceful student protest and were involved in acts of vandalism, causing damage to public property.

Police further said that 13 more miscreants have been identified, and efforts are underway to apprehend them at the earliest.

Police added that raids and search operations will continue until all those involved are brought to justice.

Reiterating its stance, police said it will not allow anyone to take advantage of sensitive situations to disturb public peace and warned that strict legal action will be taken against those involved.

Police also appreciated the cooperation of local residents and urged citizens to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and normalcy in the district.

Earlier, on Tuesday, police had arrested eight persons in connection with the case. — (KIMS)
