Forest department employee dead after fired upon by unknown gunmen in Pulwama

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A forest department employee was killed and another was injured after they were fired upon by unknown gunmen at Sangerwani forest area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday.

Officials said, two employees of forest department noticed suspicious movement at Sonabanjar forest near Bagandar bridge in Sangerwani Pulwama when they were patrolling during night.

The employees went near to inspect the suspicious movement, they were fired upon and injured by unknown gunmen, they said.

Both the injured employees were taken to nearby hospital for treatment where from doctors referred one among them namely Imran Yousuf Wani, son of Mohd Yousuf Wani, a resident of Mohnu Chrar-i-Sharief to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Another employee namely Jahangir Ahmad Chechi, son of Gh Mohiuddin Chechi, a resident of Gojipather Chadoora was discharged from hospital after first aid.

Regarding the incident, a case vide FIR No. 79/2023 under sections 16,20 UAP ( Act) , 307 IPC and 7/ 27 IA Act got registered in Police Station Rajpora and investigation has been initiated.

Soon after the incident whole area was cordoned off by Police, Army and CAPFs and intensive search operation was launched.

During the search of the of the scene of crime, two empty fired cartridges of Ak-47 ammunition and one bullet head was recovered from the spot. — (KIMS)
