Fruit growers upbeat over hassle-free movement of trucks on highway

SRINAGAR — Fruit growers across Kashmir are optimistic that the directives issued by IGP Traffic to ensure hassle free movement of trucks will be implemented.

Several fruit growers and representatives of several associations thanked the government for taking cognizance of the vital issue and hoped all directions will be implemented on the ground.

President Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union (KVFGCDU) Basheer Ahmad told news agency Kashmir News Observer that they are hopeful that the government will take the issue seriously and implement directions on the ground.

He said that 60 percent of the population in the Valley are dependent on the horticulture sector and the government must take measures to save the sector from collapsing.

He said that about five thousands fruit laden trucks are waiting for their turn to move towards Jammu and it is not possible that they will cross the road in just three hours.

On Monday, the IGP Traffic directed all SSPs of traffic including SSP National Highway to take immediate necessary measures so that fruit laden trucks are provided a smooth passage and are not stranded. — (KNO)
