GoI extends ban on Jamaat-e-Islami for 5 years

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Government of India (GoI) on Tuesday extended ban on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), Jammu and Kashmir for another five years.

The Home Minister of India, Mr. Amit Shah said, “The Government has extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), Jammu and Kashmir for five years.”

He said, “The organisation is found continuing its activities against the security, integrity and sovereignty of the nation.”

The Government of India (GoI) had declared Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) as an ‘Unlawful Association’ on February 28, 2019 under Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) 1967 and banned it for the period of five years.

According to Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India’s notification, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir is continuing to be involved in fomenting militancy and anti-India propaganda for fueling secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir, which is prejudicial to the sovereignty, security and integrity of India.

Many criminal cases have been registered against the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir and its members under various sections of law including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. — (KIMS)
