Govt extends closure of educational institutions in Kashmir till March 7

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — In view of restrictions imposed across the Kashmir Valley following massive protests against the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei in joint airstrikes by Israel and the United States, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday extended the closure of all educational institutions in Kashmir till March 7, 2026 as a precautionary measure.

The decision was taken to ensure the safety of students.

“All schools and colleges of Kashmir Division will remain closed till March 7, 2026,” Education Minister Sakina Itoo said.

According to an official order issued by the Directorate of School Education (DSEK), all government and private recognized schools in the Kashmir Division will remain closed till March 7, 2026.

In a separate order, the Higher Education Department said that all Government Degree Colleges, GCET and private colleges in the Kashmir Division will also remain shut till March 7, 2026.

Earlier, the government had on Sunday announced a two-day closure of all educational institutions across the Kashmir Valley following protests over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Classes up to 8th standard were scheduled to reopen on Monday after a winter break of over two months, while classes 9th to 12th had resumed on February 23 after the winter vacation. — (KIMS)
