Home Department directs Govt to shift 26 detenues to Agra Jail

SRINAGAR — Jammu & Kashmir Government directs to shift 26 detenues who have been detained under the provisions of Jammu & Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978 from their present place of lodgement in different jails of Jammu and Kashmir to Central Jail, Agra, Uttar Pradesh with immediate effect.

An order in this regard has been issued by Jammu and Kashmir Home Secretary Sahleen Kabra which reads that in exercise of the powers conferred under section 10 of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act-1978 the government herein directs to remove or shift 26 detenues detained under the provisions of Public Safety Act to Agra Jail of Uttar Pradesh.

At least 15 inmates lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail Jammu will be shifted to Agra Jail. Three inmates presently lodged at District Jail Baramulla, two lodged at Srinagar Central Jail, one each lodged at District Jail Kupwara and District Jail Poonch will also be shifted to Agra Jail.

At least six inmates are from Srinagar, 5 from Pulwama, 4 from Budgam, 3 from Baramulla, 2 from Bandipora while one is the resident of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. — (KNT)
