‘Immediate action needed after devastating hailstorm in South Kashmir’: Dr. Rizwan Rumi writes to PMO, LG, Div Com

Today, our beloved South Kashmir witnessed another harsh blow—a severe hailstorm that ravaged countless apple orchards. This isn’t just about damaged crops; it’s about the livelihoods of our farmers, the sustenance of their families, and the backbone of our community.

These orchards are more than just fields; they represent generations of hard work, dreams, and the spirit of resilience that defines our people. But now, that spirit is being tested like never before.

We cannot stand by as our orchardists face this devastating loss. Immediate action is needed:

  1. Urgent Compensation: The affected orchardists need prompt financial support to recover from this disaster. Without it, they risk losing not only their crops but also their ability to sustain their families.
  2. A Future-Proof Policy: It’s time to establish a comprehensive policy to protect our farmers from the unpredictable wrath of nature. Crop insurance, financial aid for preventive measures, and investment in resilient agricultural practices must be prioritized.

Let’s rally together and demand the support our apple growers deserve. The strength of our community lies in our unity—let’s show that we stand with our farmers in this critical hour.
