SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A man impersonating a police officer of the Special Operations Group (SOG) Srinagar was arrested in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday for allegedly extorting money from the public.
Acting swiftly on credible information, police arrested the accused, identified as Altaf Ahmad Dar, son of Assadullah Dar, resident of Marval Kakpora, who had been posing as an SOG officer, threatening locals and demanding money from them, police said.
A case under FIR No. 74/2025 has been registered under Sections 319 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the accused has been taken into custody.
During the investigation, several individuals have come forward stating they were intimidated by the impersonator. Their statements have been recorded, and further investigation is underway to identify any other victims, they added.
Pulwama Police have urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious or unlawful behavior to the nearest police station. — (KIMS)
