GUREZ (KIMS) — The Indian Army celebrated National Tourism Day with great enthusiasm in Dawar, Gurez, marking a significant effort to promote tourism in the region.

The event saw the participation of Mr. Ghulam Nabi, President of the Hotel Association, along with several other hotel owners, local residents, and schoolchildren. Their active involvement highlighted the collective commitment of the community toward making Gurez a prominent tourist destination.

In recent years, Gurez has witnessed a remarkable rise in the number of visitors. According to data provided by the Bandipora Administration, approximately 110,000 tourists explored the scenic beauty of Gurez in 2024 alone, showcasing the growing appeal of the region among travelers.

The event encompassed visits to prominent tourist spots across the breathtaking Gurez Valley, starting from Razdhan Pass and extending to Kaobal Gali. These locations served as perfect backdrops to highlight the valley’s unparalleled charm and potential for tourism.

During the celebrations, special efforts were made to engage young children and educate them about the vital role tourism plays in sustaining the livelihoods of the Gurezi people. The children were also sensitized about the need to preserve the pristine beauty of Gurez by ensuring a plastic-free environment and adopting eco-friendly practices.
