Joseph Vijay sworn in as Tamil Nadu CM, PM Modi congratulates

CHENNAI — TVK chief and Legislature Party leader C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administering the oath of office and secrecy at a colourful ceremony held at the Nehru Stadium here.

Amid continuous whistling and cheering by TVK cadres and in the presence of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Vijay took oath in the name of God. Ministers in the new cabinet also took oath in the name of God, unlike most members of the outgoing DMK regime.

TVK leaders Aadhav Arjuna, N Anand and KA Sengottaiyan were among those sworn in as ministers in the Vijay-led cabinet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Vijay on assuming office and said the Centre would continue working with the Tamil Nadu government for the welfare of the people.

“Congratulations to Thiru C. Joseph Vijay on taking oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Best wishes for his tenure ahead. The Central Government will keep working with the Tamil Nadu Government to improve the lives of people,” Modi said in a post on X. — (PTI)
