Journalists Threat Case: Police conducts searches at multiple locations in Kashmir

SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday carried out raids at multiple locations across Kashmir valley including at residences of several journalists in connection with recent threats to journalists in Kashmir.

Police said that in the wake of recent threat issued to journalists by a militant outfit, Srinagar Police conducted simultaneous searches at various locations across Kashmir.

According to press release issued by Srinagar Police, a case vide FIR No. 82/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered in PS Sherghari against handlers, active militants and associates of LeT and its offshoot TRF for online publication and dissemination of direct threat letters to Journalists and reporters based in Kashmir.

The press release reads that during the course of investigation, each team comprised of 4-5 members and led by an Inspector/SI rank officer monitored by the SDPO concerned. The raids were supervised by SP South City Srinagar Shri Lakshya Sharma-IPS and launched simultaneous searches at 12 locations across the valley including the houses of fugitives like Sajjad Gul, Mukhtar Baba, active militant of LeT (TRF) and other suspects in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam Districts.

It reads that the premises which were raided and searched belong to Mohd Rafi at Nigeen, Khalid Gul at Anantnag, Rashid Maqbool at Lal Bazar, Momin Gulzar at Eidgah, Basit Dar at Kulgam, Sajjad Kralyari at Rainawari, Gowhar Geelani at Soura, Qazi Shibli at Anantnag, Sajjad Sheikh @Sajjad Gul at HMT Srinagar, Mukhtar Baba at Nowgam, Waseem Khalid at Rawalpora and Adil Pandit at Khanyar Srinagar.

During search, all the legal formalities were followed professionally and consequent to the searches some suspects have been brought for examination and questioning. The seized materials by the respective search teams include mobiles, laptops, memory cards, pen-drives and other digital devices, documents, bank papers, rubber stamps, passports, other suspect papers, cash, Saudi currency etc, it added.

It reads that the investigation in the instant case is in full swing and general public is requested to bring any information that is relevant to this case in the notice of Srinagar Police. — (KIMS)
