Jumat-ul-Vida: Mirwaiz placed under house arrest, Jamia Masjid closed, says Anjuman Auqaf

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Ahead of Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of Ramadan, the Jammu and Kashmir Administration have placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest and closed the historic Jamia Masjid for prayers.

Anjuman Auqaf, the managing body of the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta Srinagar in a statement said, “The district magistrate and police officials visited on Friday morning, instructing them to lock the gates as ‘Jumat-ul-Vida prayers would not be permitted’.”

The statement said, “Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest at his residence in Nigeen Hazratbal.”

In a prior meeting, Mirwaiz directed the officials and staff of the Auqaf to execute their duties diligently, emphasizing internal arrangements for occasions like Jummat-ul-Vida, Shab-e-Qadr, and Eid-ul-Fitr to ensure no inconveniences or complaints arise. — (KIMS)
