Kakapora gunfight leaves three local militants dead

Four civilians injured during clashes

Pulwama: Three local militants were killed in a gunfight between government forces and militants at Ghat Mohalla in Kakapora village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

The slain militants have been identified as Suhail Nisar Lone and Yasir Wani from Khrew Pampore and Junaid from Prichoo Pulwama. Among them two were affiliated with Al-Badr militant outfit and one was affiliated with (LeT) Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.

Earlier, joint team of government forces including Indian Army’s 50RR (Rashtriya Rifles), Jammu and Kashmir Police and (CRPF) Central Reserve Police Force had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) in Ghat Mohalla following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

Four civilians including a woman identified as Ishrat Jan daughter of Abdul Aziz Dar from Samboora Pulwama were injured during clashes near encounter site. They were shifted to hospital for treatment and their condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Pulwama district against the killing of three local militants.

Mobile internet service has also been snapped in Pulwama district as a precautionary measure. (KIMS)
