Kashmir’s clergy condemns Shopian KP’s killing, terms it against humanity

SRINAGAR — The killing of a Kashmiri Pandit of Chandergund, Shopian by militants, Sunday evoked widespread condemnation from religious scholars across Kashmir who termed the incident as barbaric and against basic tenets of Islam.

The religious scholars, including Imams and Khateebs while quoting quranic verses said that the “killing any innocent amounts to killing of entire humanity and that the killing of KP at Shopian should be thoroughly investigated.

On Saturday, militants shot dead a KP, Pooran Krishan Bhat of Chandergund, Shopian outside his home. His body was taken to Jammu for last rites. Soon after the incident, local Muslim neighbours flooded Bhat’s house to offer condolences and to express solidarity with the bereaved family.

A number of Kashmir’s leading UIema, Imams and Khateebs while speaking to Kashmir News Observer, said that Islam doesn’t allow killing of any innocent. “The incident should be thoroughly investigated and those guilty should be punished,” said Kashmir’s Grand Mufti, Nasir ul Islam.

He said that killing of any innocent tantamount to killing of entire humanity. Speaking to KNO, Karwan-e-Islami Patron Alama Sheikh Ghulam Rasool Hami said that killing of KP in Shopian deserves all forms of condemnation.

“Maximum condemnation should pour in against this inhuman act. Islam doesn’t support any such act. Kashmir is a land of sufi’s, reshi’s and munis which has never support or justified innocent killings. We as a collective and responsible society strongly condemn the incident,” Hami said.

A number of Ulema, Khateebs, and Imams from all districts of Kashmir unitedly condemned the killing of KP member of Shopian. Quouting quranic verses, they said that whosoever kills any human being without any fault actually kills entire humanity.

They said that Kashmiri society as a whole strongly condemns innocent killings as such killings are totally unislamic in nature. — (KNO)
