Kulgam Encounter: Militants flee, civilian killed, armyman injured

KULGAM — A civilian was killed and an armyman was injured while as militants managed to flee from the encounter spot at Redwani village in Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Friday.

Reports said the civilian and armyman were injured during the initial exchange of fire and both were taken to hospital for treatment. However civilian succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased civilian has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Lone, son of Abdullah Lone, a resident of Redwani Bala in Kulgam district.

Manzoor was married last year and was father of 2-months-old son.

The injured armyman has been identified as Kiran Singh of 1 (RR) Rashtriya Rifles from Ramban. He is currently undergoing treatment at 92 Base Army Hospital in Srinagar.

Earlier, an encounter had broke out between government forces and militants at Redwani village in the district after joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) in the village following the inputs about presence of militants in the area. — (KIMS)
