Ladakh sub-junior Kho-Kho team creates history, wins opening match on national debut

KURUKSHETRA, Anayat Ali (KIMS) — The Ladakh sub-junior Kho-Kho team created history by making its maiden appearance at the 35th Sub-Junior National Kho-Kho Championship 2025, currently underway from January 31 to February 4 at Kurukshetra in Haryana.

In their debut match at the national level, Team Ladakh registered a convincing victory against Meghalaya, marking an impressive start to their campaign and drawing appreciation from officials and sports enthusiasts.

The team is being coached by Safder Ali, while Lobsang Tenzing is accompanying the squad as manager. Their guidance played a key role in preparing the young players for the championship.

General Secretary of the Kho-Kho Association Ladakh, Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, congratulated the team on its historic participation and opening-match victory, terming it a proud moment for the Union Territory.

He also thanked the management, principal and sports teacher of JK Northern School, which has the maximum number of players representing Ladakh in the team, for their continued support in promoting sports and backing Team Ladakh.

Shah further expressed gratitude to the host state Haryana for successfully organizing the championship and providing quality infrastructure and facilities for the participants.

Officials said the team’s participation and performance is expected to give a major boost to kho-kho and grassroots sports in Ladakh and inspire more youth to take up the traditional sport and aspire for national and international platforms. — (KIMS)
