LeT militant killed as forces foil infiltration bid in Kupwara

SRINAGAR — A Pakistani militant, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit was killed as joint team of forces foiled infiltration bid in Sudhpora along Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah area of Kupwara district in Northern Kashmir.

Police in a statement said, at about 0100hrs, based on specific input about possible attempts of infiltration, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (3/8 GR) in Forward Sudhpora area of Karnah Kupwara. During the search operation, an infiltrator was challenged by the joint party who started firing indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter.

The statement said that in the ensuing encounter, one militant of proscribed militant outfit LeT was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He was identified as Mohammad Shakoor son of Mohammad Yaqoob, resident of Syedpora Leepa (PoK).

Incriminating materials and arms/ammunition including 01 AK-47 rifle (short), 02 AK-47 Magazines, 01 Pistol (9mm), 02 Pistol Magazines, 9mm 45 rounds, 02 Chinese Grenades, Pakistani Currency, Identity Card etc. have been recovered from his possession, the statement added.

All the recovered materials have been seized for the further course of investigation and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Karnah. Further investigation into the matter is in progress, the statement ends. — (KIMS)
