Local Lashkar militant killed in Imamsahib Shopian encounter

SRINAGAR — A local militant, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit was killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Baskushan village in Imamsahib area of Shopian district in South Kashmir on Sunday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Baskushan village of Imamsahib area in the district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter, one local militant, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit was killed and he has been identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Baskuchan Shopian.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including AK rifle was recovered from the site of encounter.

Police in a statement said, “Naseer was a categorized militants and was involved in several terror crimes”. — (KIMS)
