Local militant killed in Shopian encounter

SHOPIAN — A local militant was killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Turkawangam village in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Thursday late night.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Turkawangam village following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter, one militant of Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) outfit was killed and he has been identified as Muneeb Ahmad Sheikh of Tak Mohalla, Shopian.

Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from encounter site. — (KIMS)
