Man arrested for killing his brother in Budgam: Police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A man has been arrested for killing his brother in Sail village of Beerwah tehsil in Budgam district of Central Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday.

Jammu and Kashmir Police in a statement said, “On November 20th (Monday), Police received an information about lifeless body of a man spotted behind his residence. The deceased man was identified as Sameer Ahmad Rather (18), from Sail Beerwah, a labourer by profession.”

“Soon after this, an investigation was initiated, involving the police Station Beerwah and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams. Several suspects including the family members of the deceased were called in for questioning,” the statement said.

“On questioning the family members, Aqib Ahmad Rather, the brother of Sameer confessed to his involvement. Aqib revealed a confrontation between them took place, during the intervening night of 19 and 20th November, resulting in Sameer’s demise,” the statement said.

“Father and sister of the deceased also confessed, providing details about Aqib’s role. Aqib was arrested, and a thorough investigation was conducted, leading to the recovery of essential evidence including the weapon of offence used by Aqib to assault Sameer,” the statement added.

In this regard, a case has been filed as FIR No. 143/2023 under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). — (KIMS)
