Man gets 14-year imprisonment for kidnapping, sexually assaulting minor girl in Srinagar

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Police on Monday said they have secured the conviction of an accused for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl in Srinagar.

The case, registered vide FIR No. 24/2021 under Sections 363 and 376 IPC read with Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Police Station M.R. Gunj, Srinagar, pertained to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 17-year-old minor girl reported on April 11, 2021.

Police said that following the registration of the case, a prompt and thorough investigation was carried out, during which the victim was recovered, statements of witnesses were recorded, evidence was collected, and medical and forensic examinations were conducted as per legal procedures.

After completion of the investigation, a chargesheet was filed before the Fast Track Court (POCSO), Srinagar. Upon conclusion of the trial, the court found the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

On December 30, 2025, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 15,000.

Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children and said they remain committed to ensuring justice for victims through prompt and professional investigation. — (KIMS)
