Man involved in killing of two Punjabis in Srinagar arrested

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A man has been arrested for his involvement in killing of two Punjabis in Shalla Kadal area of Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Tuesday.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police in a press release said, “Based upon clinching evidence collected during investigation, the accused man identified as Adil Manzoor Langoo, son of Manzoor Ahmad Langoo, a resident of Zaldager Srinagar has been arrested for carrying out the militant attack on these two individuals from Punjab and subsequently the weapon of offence and other incriminating material has also been recovered from his possession.”

“The accused had conspired with his handler across in Pakistan for commission of the terror crime. The accused was a highly motivated and radicalized individual. His handler in Pakistan radicalized him on social media and motivated him to carry out the terror attack,” the press release said.

“The handler provided him the weapon after which he motivated him to carry out the attack. The accused identified his targets and tracked them in the lanes of Shalla Kadal on the fateful day and open fire upon both of them, who consequently, succumbed to their injuries,” it said.

On February 7, 2024 (Wednesday) evening, two persons were fired upon and critically injured by unknown gunman in Shalla Kadal area of Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar. They were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment, however both succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased persons were identified as Amritpal Singh, son of Sarmukh Singh and Rohit Masi, son of Parin Masi — both residents of Chamyari, Amritsar in Punjab.

The duo were coming back to Srinagar from Amritsar and were on way to their accommodation when the incident happened.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police had registered a Case FIR no. 08/2024 u/s 302, 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act, 15,16,20 ULA(P) Act in Police Station Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar and investigation was taken up. On Tuesday, the main accused in the case was arrested.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Central Kashmir Range has constituted a SIT to be headed by SP South for investigation of the case and further investigation is being attended to expeditiously. — (KIMS)
