Maroof Wani highlights plight of relocated street vendors in Shopian

SHOPIAN — Socio-political activist Er. Maroof Ahmad Wani on Saturday interacted with street vendors in Shopian to assess the difficulties they are facing at the newly allotted vending market following their relocation.

During the interaction, the vendors highlighted the lack of basic amenities at the new site, saying they had shifted to the designated market with the expectation of proper rehabilitation and adequate facilities to continue their businesses.

They said the absence of essential facilities had affected their daily business activities, with many reportedly suffering financial losses and falling into debt following the relocation.

The vendors said they were seeking basic amenities and a fair opportunity to earn their livelihood rather than any special concessions.

They appealed to the concerned authorities to address their grievances and provide the necessary facilities at the vending market.

The vendors also urged the District Administration and Municipal Council Shopian to intervene at the earliest and take concrete measures to ensure their proper rehabilitation and restore their livelihood opportunities. — (KIMS)
