SRINAGAR — Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has become the country’s first automobile manufacturer to transport vehicles to Jammu and Kashmir by train.
The first consignment of 116 vehicles—including Brezza, Dzire, WagonR, and S-Presso—was dispatched from the company’s Manesar plant and reached the Anantnag Railway Terminal in South Kashmir on Friday. The automobile carrier train covered a distance of 850 kilometres in 45 hours.
The development marks a major milestone in automobile logistics for the Valley, reducing reliance on road transport.
Announcing the achievement on X, the company said, “Maruti Suzuki begins a new chapter in green logistics! First batch of over 100 vehicles reaches Anantnag terminal in Jammu & Kashmir from the company’s in-plant railway siding at Manesar facility.”
The company further noted that it was the first automobile manufacturer in the country to use Indian Railways for dispatching vehicles to the region.
“The rake covered over 850 kilometres, crossing the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river,” it added.
