Mehbooba condemns policeman’s killing, criticises detentions in Kashmir

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday condemned the killing of a police officer in the line of duty, describing it as a heinous and condemnable act.

In a post on X, Mehbooba Mufti, however, criticised the reported detention of over a thousand people and the demolition of the houses of the families of two alleged militants, terming such actions “collective punishment” with no place in a democracy.

She said that if the Government of India maintains that militancy has been reduced to near zero, it should adopt more humane and lawful approach towards innocent civilians instead of resorting to measures affecting an entire community.

Her remarks came in the wake of the recent terror attack in Anantnag district in which a police officer was killed. — (KIMS)
