MeT forecasts light snowfall over isolated higher reaches till Feb 5

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Sunday forecast partly to generally cloudy weather with chances of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir till February 5.

The Kashmir division received light snowfall while plains of Jammu division received light to moderate rainfall and middle and higher reaches received light to moderate snowfall during the last 24 hours.

An official of the Meteorological Department (MeT) said, “Improvements in weather conditions are anticipated from today late afternoon. He stated that the forecast for February 5th indicates partly to generally cloudy weather, with a chance of light snowfall in isolated higher reaches of the Union Territory.”

He said, “From February 6th, dry weather conditions are expected to prevail in the Union Territory for a week.”

Meanwhile, the Summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar recorded minus 0.7°C, Qazigund minus 2.2°C, Kupwara minus 1.9°C, Gulmarg minus 7.0°C, Pahalgam minus 3.5°C and Kokernag minus 3.0°C as the Minimum temperature in Kashmir region on Sunday.

The Winter capital, Jammu recorded 9.6°C, Katra 6.8°C, Batote minus 0.8°C, Bhaderwah and Banihal each 0.2°C as the Minimum temperature in Jammu region.

In Ladakh region, Leh recorded minus 9.0°C as the Minimum temperature.

The Kashmir valley is currently under 20-day long ‘Chillai Khurd’ which will be followed by 10-day-long ‘Chilla Bachha’.

The harshest 40-day-long period of ‘Chillai Kalan’ remained snowless this year, causing a worry among residents. — (KIMS)
