MeT forecasts rain in plains, snowfall in higher reaches of J&K from today

SRINAGAR — The Meteorological Department on Friday forecast rain in plains and snowfall in higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir for next 48 hours.

The weather was cloudy in the Union Territory during last 24 hours.

An official of the Meteorological Department said, Widespread rain/thunderstorm with snowfall over higher reaches at most places of Jammu and Kashmir with possibility of hailstorm in plains during March 24-25.

Thunderstorm may be accompanied by strong gusty winds. Rain likely to commence from afternoon onwards, he said.

He also advised farmers to to postpone spraying of orchards.

Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded 5.3 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 0.6 degrees Celsius and Gulmarg 0 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature in Kashmir region on Friday.

In Jammu region,  Jammu recorded 14.9 degrees Celsius, Katra 12.0 degrees Celsius, Batote 7.5 degrees Celsius, Banihal 5.0 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 5.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Ladakh region, Drass recorded minus 6.3 degrees Celsius, Kargil minus 1.9 degrees Celsius and Leh minus 3.0 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature. — (KIMS)
