SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Tuesday forecast a spell of rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir from December 30, with moderate to heavy snowfall likely over higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir around the New Year.
According to the MeT Department, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy on Tuesday, with the possibility of light rain or snowfall at many places towards late afternoon or evening.
From the night of December 31 to the morning or forenoon of January 1, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy, with the possibility of light to moderate rain or snowfall at most places across Jammu and Kashmir. A few higher and extreme higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir may receive moderate to heavy snowfall during this period.
The department has advised travellers and transporters to follow traffic and administrative advisories during the night of December 30 through January 1. It has also warned of moderate to dense fog over isolated pockets of the Jammu division during the next 24 hours.
On January 2, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with a brief spell of light rain or snowfall over isolated places.
From January 3 to 5, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy, while January 6 may witness generally cloudy conditions with the possibility of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir.
The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy from January 7 to 8. From January 9 to 10, partly to generally cloudy conditions are likely to prevail, while similar weather conditions are expected from January 11 to 13, the department added.
Meanwhile, the summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 1.0°C, Qazigund 1.4°C, Kupwara 2.0°C, Kokernag 1.8°C, Pahalgam minus 1.2°C and Gulmarg minus 1.6°C on Tuesday.
The winter capital Jammu recorded 8.6°C, Katra 9.8°C, Batote 7.7°C, Banihal 5.0°C and Bhaderwah 3.8°C.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded minus 8.4°C and Kargil minus 7.9°C as the minimum temperature. — (KIMS)
