Militant hideout busted in Ramban; huge cache of arms, ammo recovered: Police

RAMBAN (KIMS) — Security forces on Wednesday said that they busted a militant hideout in forest area of Khari tehsil in Ramban district and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from the hideout.

Police in a statement said, On Tuesday (4th April 2023), an information was received through reliable sources regarding presence of caché of arms, ammunition and related material in the far flung hilly and forested area of Khari.

The statement said, Acting swiftly on the input, a joint search operation of J&K Police and 23 RR Army was launched in the forest area and suspected hideout locations were searched which continued till evening during which security forces busted a suspected militant hideout and arms and ammunition among other things were recovered from the spot.

The recovered arms and ammunition include 256 7.62 MM Cartridges, 36 7.62 MM Empty Cartridges, 05 AK-47 Magazines, 34 9 MM Cartridges, 01 9 MM Empty Cartridge, 02 9 MM Empty Magazines, 02 Pika Amn, 16 Pika Empty Cartridges, 01 Pika Belt, 01 52 MM Mortar, 04 Detonators, 02 Ft Cordex, 01 Knife, 01 Lantren 01 Kerosene Lamp, 01 Tape Recorder, 01 Walkman with Headphone, 05 Audio Cassettes, 01 Itar, 01 Watch, 02 Old Bags, 01 LMG Amn Belt Box and 02 Identity Cards, it said.

The statement further said that the entire joint search operation of JKP and 23 RR was led by Major Mayank of 23 RR, Police party of Police Post Khari headed by PSI Rajnish Pangotra I/C PP Khari, SOG Banihal headed by Insp. Hargopal Singh under the command of Insp. Mohd Afzal Wani SHO P/S Banihal, under the supervision of DySP Pardeep Sen I/C SDPO Banihal with the overall supervision of Ms Mohita Sharma, IPS SP Ramban.

In this regard, a case FIR no. 77/2023 u/s 7/25 Arms act and Sec 4 Explosives Substnaces Act has been registered at P/S Banihal and investigation has been taken up, the statement said. — (KIMS)
