Militant slain in Budgam anti-militancy operation, another arrested

SRINAGAR — A militant was slain and another arrested in an anti-militancy operation in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday morning.

Reports said, joint team of government forces had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) in Manchowa area of Budgam district in Central Kashmir following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

As the searches were intensified, militants opened fire on joint team of forces, which was retaliated, thus triggering an gunfight, they said.

One militant was slain while as another managed to escape from the anti-militancy operation spot and travel to Khrew area of Pulwama district by a truck.

He along with truck driver were arrested in Khrew area of Pulwama district, the truck was also seized by the police.

The slain militant has been identified as Shakir Bashir Dar from Goripora Awantipora. He was affiliated with Al-Badr militant outfit and the arrested militant has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Najar from Wuyan Khrew and was affiliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit.

The truck driver has been identified as Mohammad Shafi Dar from Gratwani Mohalla Khrew.

Arms and ammunition including One AK 47 Rifle with 2 Magazines 32 Rounds, One Chinese Pistol with 2 Magazines 16 Rounds, One Bagpack and One Pouch were recovered from the site of anti-militancy operation. — (KIMS)
