Mounting pressure from Right-wing, Army deletes Iftaar Party Tweet

JAMMU — After criticism from the right wing for promoting criticism, the Army on Saturday deleted a tweet featuring pictures of an Iftaar party in Chenab valley.

PRO Defence Jammu according to news agency Kashmir Dot Com chose to delete the tweet, intending to promote secularism, which had photographs of Iftaar party organised by Army in Doda during this Ramazan.

“Keeping alive the traditions of secularism, an Iftaar party was organised by the Army at Arnora in Doda district,” tweeted PRO Defence Jammu with pictures showing children and elders breaking fast offering prayers.

However, the tweet disappeared from the twitter handle @prodefencejammu after Sudarshan TV Editor Suresh Chavhanke hit out at the Army on the micro-blogging site for featuring pictures of Iftaar party.

“Who ate my last secularism tweet? The Indian Army has been a proud institution which has always stayed away from the politically inspired communal virus; which has shown to the world the highest standards of secularism. How sad to see the Army taking down this Iftaar tweet after a programme on a fringe television channel,” said security analyst Zafar Choudhary. — (KDC)
