SRINAGAR — A young man educated in the United Kingdom and belonging to a well-known business family in Srinagar joined PDP, a boost to the party in the city.
Zuhaib Yousuf Mir son of Muhamamd Yousuf Mir from Athwaajan joined PDP in presence of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at PDP office in Srinagar.
Zuhaib is nephew of former PDP minister and provisional president of Apni Party.
Zuhaib, who has a Master in Economics from University of Edinburgh in England, told that he joined PDP as he saw “hope in the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti after abrogation of Article 370.”
“I felt sad that after August 5, 2019 when the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was abrogated. Unfortunately, the majority of the mainstream leaders accepted the post August 5 status. No party or leader put forward a constructive program,” Zuhaib said during his joining.
“I found PDP and its leadership Mehbooba Mufti as the only party and person where I can discuss and implement the constructive program,” he said.
“Only Mehbooba Mufti and her party is talking about the abrogation of Article 370, Article 35 A and social justice, Ganga-Yamuna civilization, secularism, strong citizenship and the voice of our hurt sentiments. I salute that commitment,” he said.
Zuhaib belongs to the Mir family of Athwajan who yield influence in business and politics in the area.
With Zuhaib’s joining, Ashraf Mir has a formidable challenge in politics in the Sonwar assembly segment. — (KDC)
