Omar Abdullah’s claim of ‘Govt curtailing CM’s powers’ misleading, speculative: Amit Shah

NEW DELHI (KIMS) — Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister on Friday refuted Omar Abdullah’s claim that ‘the Government had curtailed the powers of the Chief Minister and assigned them to the Lieutenant Governor.’

He said that the allegation was ‘misleading’ and ‘speculative,’ as there was no such proposal.

Omar Abdullah, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said, “The Chief Secretary had been assigned the duty to change the transaction of business rules of the government to curtail the powers of the Chief Minister or elected government and assign the same to the LG?”

He claimed that “He has received this information internally from within the civil secretariat.”

The former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir also advised bureaucrats and officers to resist any pressure to disempower the incoming elected government.

Responding to these allegations, Shah posted on X: “Mr. Omar Abdullah’s tweet is misleading and speculative in nature. There is not even an iota of truth, as there is absolutely no such proposal. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act of 2019, passed by the Parliament of India, provides for notifying the transaction of business rules, which were done in 2020. The people of J&K have wholeheartedly supported the government’s efforts to establish a democratically elected government through a historic, free, and fair election process in which citizens participated enthusiastically.” — (KIMS)
