Passenger cab falls into deep gorge in Ramban, 10 dead

JAMMU (KIMS) — At least ten persons lost their lives when a passenger cab falls into deep gorge along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Ramban district of Jammu region on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 02:00 am on Friday, when a passenger cab (Tavera) on way from Jammu to Srinagar lost its control and fell into deep gorge at Battery Chashma area of Ramban district, reports said.

Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched jointly by the teams of J&K Police, SDRF and civil QRT Ramban and 10 dead bodies have been recovered from the spot, they said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir have expressed grief over the loss of 10 lives in a tragic road accident at Battery Chashma area of Ramban district.

The Prime Minister also extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays for a quick recovery of the injured. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured.

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Manoj Sinha has also expressed deep shock over the loss of lived in Ramban accident. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and issued instructions to District Administration Ramban and Divisional Commissioner Jammu to render all assistance, as provided in the rule, to the kin of victims.

The former Chief Minister’s of Jammu and Kashmir including Ms. Mehbooba Mufti and other political and social figures have also expressed grief over the loss of lives in Ramban accident. — (KIMS)
