SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Member of Parliament from Central Kashmir’s Srinagar constituency and National Conference (NC) senior leader, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, on Tuesday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, congratulating him on assuming office of the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition to his congratulations, Ruhullah proposed several measures for the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir and its people, including the release of prisoners.
“Congratulations on assuming the office of Chief Minister. This is a significant opportunity to lead with vision and integrity, and I wish you success in fulfilling the responsibilities that come with this esteemed position,” Ruhullah wrote.
“As you embark on this journey, it is crucial to respect the people’s mandate and align your government’s actions with their aspirations. While I am confident that you will address political issues through the legislature, I would like to suggest certain priorities that could greatly impact welfare of the society,” the letter reads.
- Release of Prisoners: “This urgent matter concerns prisoners held without trial. Your government should prioritize efforts to secure their release, upholding justice and the rule of law. Such an action would resonate deeply with those who value fairness and due process.”
- Rationalization of Reservation Policies: Ruhullah highlighted the importance of reviewing reservation policies to support deserving segments of society while maintaining merit-based standards. “A balanced approach can foster social equity without compromising excellence,” he stated.
- Filling of Vacancies: He urged the swift filling of government vacancies, which could provide employment opportunities for thousands, stimulate the local economy, and reduce unemployment.
- Electricity Tariffs and Supply: With winter approaching, Ruhullah called for reduced electricity tariffs and a stable power supply. “Lower tariffs would help families endure the harsh winter conditions,” he noted.
- Verification Process: “The current verification process is overly stringent and often penalizes individuals unfairly. This procedure should be reassessed to ensure it is fair and just,” Ruhullah suggested.
“I hope you consider these suggestions as you work to meet the expectations of the people. Your leadership has the potential to pave the way for a progressive and just administration. Best wishes for your tenure,” he concluded. — (KIMS)
