Shopian Encounter: Newly recruited Lashkar militant killed, armyman injured

SHOPIAN — A newly recruited local militant, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit was killed while as an armyman was injured in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Heff Shirmal village in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Monday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Heff Shirmal village in Shopian district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter one local militant affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit was killed and he has been identified as Aqib Ahmad Paul, son of Mohammed Akram Paul, a resident of Drawani Shopian.

Paul was active since 5th September this year.

One armyman was also injured during the initial stage of encounter. He was shifted to 92 Base Army Hospital Srinagar for treatment.

Arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials of proscribed militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were recovered from the site of encounter. — (KIMS)
