SRINAGAR (KIMS) — At least six miscreants have been arrested in Srinagar for making derogatory remarks against the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), police said on Wednesday.

“Six miscreants have been detained under sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS Act for inciting sectarian unrest through derogatory remarks. They have been lodged at Central Jail, Srinagar,” police said in a statement.

Police also issued a stern warning to the public, cautioning that anyone found engaging in similar unlawful activities, including posting or sharing sectarian content, will face strict legal action.

“The public is hereby warned that any individual found engaging in similar unlawful activities, including posting or sharing sectarian content with the intent to create division or disturb public harmony, will meet the same fate,” the statement said.

Earlier, police had noted that they had taken cognizance of derogatory sectarian remarks made by certain individuals.

“Over the past few months, it has been observed that some individuals with malicious intentions have been engaging in sectarian slander on social media, attempting to create division,” the statement said.

“Legal action, following due process, will be taken against all offenders, and anyone sharing or forwarding such derogatory content against any sect will face strict action under the full force of the law,” the statement added. — (KIMS)
