Six persons arrested for circulating misinformation on Social Media in Bandipora: Police

BANDIPORA (KIMS) — At least six persons have been arrested for circulating false and fabricated news on social media platforms about an encounter that took place in the Kulnar Bazipora area of Bandipora district on April 24, 2025, police said on Thursday.

Bandipora Police received information from multiple sources that certain individuals had circulated false and fabricated narratives on their social media handles regarding the encounter, police said in a statement.

In response, Bandipora Police registered a criminal case against all social media account holders involved in spreading these false stories, the statement said.

The unlawful actions of these individuals not only misled the public but also posed a threat to national security and had the potential to disrupt law and order in the region, the statement added.

Taking cognizance of the seriousness of the matter, Bandipora Police registered FIR No. 71/25 under Section 152 BNS and Section 66(f) of the IT Act at Police Station Bandipora. Investigation into the case is underway.

In connection with the case, six individuals have been apprehended. They have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Gojar Baniya, S/o Zulf Deen Gojar Baniya, R/o Bazipora Ajas, Sartaj Ahmad Malik, S/o Mohd Subhan Malik, R/o Malikpora Rakh-Hajin, Zafran Ahmad Gojar, S/o Shah Zaman Gojar, R/o Bazipora Ajas, Bilal Ahmad Hurra, S/o Ab Hamid Hurra, R/o Gundjahahgir Hajin, Altaf Ahmad Wani, S/o Ab Jabbar Wani, R/o Baharabad Hajin, Bilal Ahmad Parray, S/o Ab Majeed Parray, R/o Khose Mohalla.

Further investigation is ongoing.

Bandipora Police urges all social media users to act responsibly and refrain from activities that violate legal and ethical norms.
