SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A Corporator of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) on various charges, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Friday.
Police said, “A Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Corporator namely Aqib Ahmed Renzu, son of Bilal Ahmed Renzu from Nishat Srinagar was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) on various charges including blackmail, sexual harassment and outraging modesty.”
“The arrested corporator has been lodged in Kot Balwal jail in Jammu. He has 7 FIRs (First Information Reports) against him in different Police Stations in Srinagar,” Police said.
Srinagar Police in a post on X (formerly Twitter) said, “SMC corporator Aqib Ahmed Renzu S/o Bilal Ahmed Renzu booked under PSA & has been lodged in Kot Balwal jail, Jammu. He has 7 FIRs against him in different police stations of Srinagar, the offences range from rioting, assault, blackmail, sexual harassment, outraging modesty etc.”
Renzu was arrested on September 23, 2023 on charges of sexual harassment, outraging modesty, and online stalking.
“Strong technical evidence in this case was produced by the brave victim. FIR No 50/2023 U/S 354, 354A, 354D has been registered at Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station,” Srinagar Police had posted on X (formerly Twitter) — (KIMS)
