Snow avalanche hits Gurez village, two ladies rescued

SRINAGAR — In North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, two ladies were rescued on Friday after a snow avalanche hit the Manzgund area of Tulail in Gurez.

Quoting sources, news agency KDC reported that two ladies were collecting drinking water from a nearby tap when they came under a medium avalanche in Mazgund area of Tulail this morning.

They said that soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched by locals and after strenuous efforts both the ladies namely Tabassum Bano and Shahnaza Begum were rescued alive.

However, sources said, no damage has been reported in the incident so far.

Until the weather improves, the general public is once again advised to remain cautious and avoid going outside in sloped, mountainous, or avalanche-prone locations, said an official.
